Pico

Pico is a handsome 4-year-old AQHA sorrel gelding standing 14.3 hands, sired by Gunner Dun It Again, a son of the legendary Colonels Smoking Gun. His championship pedigree doesn’t stop there—his papers also feature greats like Hollywood Dun It and Smart Little Lena. Pico has the athleticism, trainability, and style these legendary bloodlines are known for, all wrapped up in a package that’s hard to miss. Pico spent time in professional reining training before joining our program, giving him an exceptional foundation that shines through every ride. Since then, we’ve focused on developing him into a ranch riding horse, and he has absolutely excelled. His gorgeous long trot, smooth turnarounds, huge stop, and effortless way of moving make him an exciting ranch riding prospect. He has all the pieces to be incredibly competitive in the show pen while still being the kind of horse you can enjoy riding every day. Outside the arena, Pico has spent countless hours on the trails, confidently worked through obstacle courses, and helped with everyday ranch work. Whether he’s crossing logs, navigating water, working around the ranch, or heading out for a long trail ride, Pico is happy to go wherever you point him. That versatility is one of our favorite things about him—he has the talent and training of a performance horse without being limited to life in the show pen. Pico is deaf, but you wouldn’t know it from watching him work. He is exceptionally attentive to his rider and responds beautifully to clear, confident cues. His deafness can make him a little more aware of what’s happening around him, but it certainly hasn’t kept him from doing everything we’ve asked of him. He has happily carried beginner riders, although we believe he will truly thrive with a confident rider who can give him clear direction and develop a strong partnership with him. Pico has an incredible amount of talent to offer and deserves someone who will appreciate everything he brings to the table. Pico is the complete package for someone looking for a young horse with a strong performance foundation, genuine ranch and trail experience, a willing attitude, and a personality that’s impossible not to love. Whether his future includes ranch riding competition, trail riding, ranch work, or a little bit of everything, he has the foundation and ability to go in so many directions. We’re excited to offer such a special young gelding and can’t wait to see everything he accomplishes with his next partner.
